Divorce and Custody Consultant Specializing in diversity
Maria works with clients in high conflict divorce and custody to help them deal with a range of emotions that are inherent in a marital breakup and court procedures. Often times clients are easily triggered, distraught, and overwhelmed because divorce is one of the most significant losses, and it becomes a challenge for clients to gather financial paperwork and other information that are essential for their case.
Her work plays an extremely valuable role in helping clients manage their negative emotional energy so that they are able to:
Separate volatile emotions from important decision-making process
Manage emotions and increase self-control
Practice good self-care and compassion as to not activate the fight-flight-freeze response
Develop and cultivate healthy coping skills
Develop skills in open communication so they are able to communicate with clarity
Manage their feelings of emotional overwhelm so that they can gather information and meet deadlines
Execute a plan and create agreements after evaluating information and considering consequences
How does coaching differ from psychotherapy?
In her psychotherapy practice, she worked with clients who were in the midst of divorce and custody proceedings. She observed that her clients needed to get through their legal proceedings rather than reflect on their past to resolve deep underlying issues. They thrived in sessions that were goal focused with a specific time frame. And thus began her work as a Divorce and Custody Coach specializing in building resilience and crisis management.
